Introduction of BFSU
Founded in 1941, Beijing Foreign Studies University is the first of its kind offering foreign languages. Under the direct management of the State Ministry of Education, it’s also one of the “985” program members as well as the first “211” program members, with a profound history and offering the most language programs and perfect multi-level teaching system.
BFSU started its recruitment of overseas students Since 1950s, and it has established cooperation and exchange programs with 398 HEIs and research institutions of 72 countries and regions. Seventeen overseas Confucius College in 14 countries in Asia, Europe and America are founded with the help of BFSU.
As an important base to cultivate talents of diplomacy, trade, finance, translation, journalism, law and literature, BFSU has enjoyed significant achievements in terms of teaching and research. Among our alumni, there’re more than 400 ambassadors and almost 1000 counselors, which wins BFSU the reputation of the cradle of diplomats.
 
School of International Relations and Diplomacy
Introduction
School of International Relations and Diplomacy includes the Diplomacy Department, the International Issues Research Institute, the Journal of International Forum and four research centers (the Public Diplomacy Research Center, the Social Gender Studies and Global Issues Research Center, the UN and International Organizations Research Center and the East-west Relations Research Center), representing one of the bases for cultivating diplomatic talents, an academic authority in international studies and the think tank for making foreign policies.
Faculty
Currently there’re 25 teachers in School of International Relations and Diplomacy, including five professors, 11 associate professors and researchers, and two foreign experts. More than 95% of them have got PhDs, and at least 50% have one year and above overseas experiences.
The Honorary Dean is Li Zhaoxing, the former foreign minister of China.
Professor Li Yonghui (PhD supervisor), Dean of School of International Relations and Diplomacy, is also the executive director of Public Diplomacy Research Center, the American- Chinese Institute, United Nations Association of China, and the HEI International Politics Seminar, the member of China National Association for International Studies and the academic council of Beijing Foreign Affairs and Communications Research Base, vise president of Beijing HEI International Politics Seminar, and the contributing researcher of Hong Kong Tianda Institute.
Advantages
Four curricula education levels including Bachelor, Double BA, Master and Doctor.
Master’s degree of politics(first level discipline) is granted, and five second level disciplines are included, which are Chinese and Foreign Political System, International Relations, International Politics, Diplomacy, and Public Diplomacy.
The only institute that arranged a master’s program of a second level discipline of public diplomacy on its own.
The first institute that established diplomacy department in China and developed it into a distinctive specialty at state level.
Advanced research on Chinese Issues, Big Power Relations and Diplomacy, State and Regional Diplomacy, Public Diplomacy, UN and International Organizations, etc.
A multilevel interdisciplinary teaching system based on practice with advantages in cultivating interdisciplinary and bilingual talents in fields of diplomacy and foreign affairs.
Resources and cooperation with overseas institutes
We have many intern bases such as Xinhua Press, Chinese Football Association, Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade, UN Associations of China, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, Davos Forum, China News Service, Beijing Association for Science and Technology Commission. The BFSU-CCPIT base was awarded Beijing off-school talents cultivation base.
We also cooperate with many foreign HEIs and research institutes in students cultivation academic exchange including Denver University, American University, West-East Center of Hawaii University, Waseda University, Niigata University, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Nanyang Technological University, Tel Aviv University, the University of Melbourne, and Macquarie University.

4.   Tuition Fee and Scholarship:
1)   The application fee of 800.00RMB; The total study term last for four years with an annual tuition fee of 26,000.00RMB.
2)   Students with Chinese Government Scholarship are also admitted (please apply at http://www.csc.edu.cn)
3)   SIRD provides the Scholarship for Countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” for 21 students in total. (Attachment 2: Instruction for the Scholarship)

Detailed Criteria for Bachelor Degree Program in Diplomacy Taught in Chinese
 
Target students of this program will be the non-Chinese nationals with senior high school education, Basic English and Chinese skill, and interested in diplomacy, politics, international relations, China foreign relations and Chinese culture.
The program offers an excellent faculty to cultivate students' international perspective and train them with solid professional basics, bilingual skills, strong social practice capabilities, excellent intercultural communication skills and enhancedoverall qualities.
This program is a four-year, full-time program, and starts in Spring or Autumn. The teaching language will mainly be Chinese, along with English. After the student get all the requiredcredits, finish the thesis and pass the oral defense, he will be conferred the bachelor degree by Beijing Foreign Studies University.
 
Introduction of School of International Relations and Diplomacy:
The School of International Relations and Diplomacy (SIRD) of Beijing Foreign Studies University has both teaching and research institutes, such as the Department of Diplomacy, Department of International Politics, Department of Politics and Administration, Institute of International Issues, Editorial Office of the International Forum, Center of Public Diplomacy, Center of Social Gender and Global Issues, Center of East-West Relations, Center of UN and International Organizations. It is one of the training bases for diplomatic professionals, an academic center for international issue studies, as well as a think-tank for foreign policy consultation.

Program of Diplomacy (attachment 1: Course Structure)
Four - year curriculum
Tuition fee: 26,000.00 RMB per year
Application fee: 800.00 RMB
School begins in Autumn, or Spring (late enrollment)
The students need to have an academic level above senior high school and a Chinese language skill which equals; or with a qualified IELTS score.
Student not meeting the HSK3 requirements need to attend a Chinese class for a semester, before the students can start the program courses (which means can graduate in 4.5--5 years.)
 
Features of the Program:
Chances to have social practice in order to know Chinese culture, experience multi-culture studies, and  have a deep knowledge of China
Lectures given by Ambassadors of China to other countries, or forum given by experts and scholars.
Chinese Ambassadors and government officials in certain areas, experts or scholars invited to have exchanges with our students on the Chinese social and economic issues as well as policy making orientation of the Chinese government.
Professional Chinese language learning courses
Studying with Chinese students in the same class which will help the foreign students with their Chinese language learning
Course mainly taught in Chinese, along with courses taught in English
You can learn a double degree: Major in English, Major in international finance, major in Law
Each student is equipped with a tutor, also can choose Chinese language partner

There are three levels of scholarship:
5 full scholarship awards: 26,000 RMB per year
5 half scholarship awards: 13,000 RMB per year
11 scholarship awards for excellence: 5,000 RMB per year
Scholarship awards are decided based on the academic results of students for the previous year.
